Why Big School Dog Training Class?
Puppies who are 6 to 12 months old are typically going through the start of adolescents.
This developmental stage in a dog is sort of like being a human teenager.
You will notice a lot of physical growth in your puppy during this stage but there are also a lot of hormonal and brain development going on that you can’t see. However, you might see the results in their behaviour.
That cute little puppy you had that listened when you asked them to come when call? They’ve probably disappeared.
Don’t let your terrible teen get you down. Big School is an affordable group dog training class designed for teen woofs.
Our classes also provide you with a safe ongoing socialisation option. Unfortunately a lot of people aren’t aware of what their dog needs at this stage in life.
This age is where dogs really test their humans patience. And I’m sad to say, those that can’t cope often relinquish their dog to shelters for behavioural problems. Or try to ignore their issues. Sadly, they only get worse if left untreated. It’s a greater time and expense down the track.
We can help you avoid future dog training problems.
Is Big School right for me and my dog?
Big School is run by an experienced, qualified canine behaviour expert. That means we have the knowledge and expertise to cater to different levels.
Big School dog training group classes are suitable if you have completed a puppy preschool or other training course before.
“Coronavirus Puppies”
We’re aware that a lot of people did not do any socialisation or training with their puppy due to coronavirus restrictions at that time. Or missed out on it for some other reason.
If your dog cannot be within 3 metres of another dog or person without:
- Growling
- Barking
- Lunging
- Air snapping
- Hackles up (i.e. piloerection – fur up on back)
- Freezing
- Cowering
- Trying to run away or hide
Then Big School might not be suitable at this time. If you are not sure, and come to Big School and we find out your puppy has different needs you will be offered an equivalent value in private one on one training lessons or a Behaviour Consultation.
Big School is for learning new good manners skills. Dog obedience training classes are not suitable if your dog exhibits the above behaviours that means they don’t feel safe and we should concentrate on helping them feel safe and happy about being around other dogs and people instead as a priority.
